Determinants of Association PH'5CHK

Note: Details of Spirals and their Trees are or will be worked out in the Frameworks sections of this website. This topic is focused on the architecture and specifically on the contribution of psychosocial pressures to meeting our Primal Needs.

A Shared Reality for «Association»

No single language use method guarantees that association will deliver the desired understanding, nor does any shared reality. Nothing guarantees the communication will lead to understanding on both sides: see Wiio's law. there are too many vagaries in life.

However, the more modes that are included, the stronger a shared reality can be. Incorporating modes takes time and follows a necessary order as explained in the Spiral framework.

The shared reality of any association will always be determined by the way mode essences (Tree centres) are used.

The inexorable passage of time and use of resources is represented in the Tree framework by its base in the Primal Nexus. Here, performance pressure orients generation of a shared reality (KL1) and performance pressure is also evident in using a shared reality (CL1).

The unavoidable deficiency in understanding associated with any association raises questions of continuing participation. That is why the shared reality, once the Nexus is secure, moves its orientation from communication-RL5 to purpose-RL6, which is driven by autonomy.

However, a continuing belief in any proposed reality depends on the goals and values of members of the group. The natural autonomy of members in this regard puts an unavoidable constraint on any association. That is why reality-oriented communication-RL5 turns out to be enabled and constrained by Purpose-RL6, whose psychosocial pressure is autonomy.

In the Tree, the interaction of actualization and transcendence is dramatic.

Given attention to the Primal Nexus, the lower part involving RL5-Communication requires:

  • use of actualizing pressures—in orienting input to the shared reality
    i.e. KL2-certainty (about principles and assumptions), KL3-acceptability (in presentation of values), KL4-well-being (in regard to precise details);

    but

  • use of transcending pressures—in producingthe shared reality output that brings association under control
    i.e. CL2-selflessness (in relying on principles and assumptions), CL3-understanding (values in play), CL4-autonomy (in regard to precise details).

while the upper part involving RL6-Purpose requires:

  • use of transcending pressures—in orienting input to the shared reality so as to enhance autonomy.
    i.e. KL5-understanding (of events and situations), KL6-autonomy (in regard to maintenance of convictions), KL7-selflessness (in accepting a narrative);

    but

  • use of actualizing pressures—in producing the sense of self so that it enables and constrains lower levels in a way that generates autonomy
    i.e. CL5-certainty (of accounts of events and situations), CL6-well-being (in regard to convictions), CL7-acceptability (in promoting the narrative).

This framework has implications for the management of groups and personal participation.
