Vehicles of Faith: G1-Monads

Willingness to Hope

The elements of willingness-PH7 had certain functions and properties when looked at purely through the lens of willingness, and these remain relevant and cannot be violated.

However, the present context is different. The lens has changed to helping, to «rendering assistance», to generating a meaningful result for another.

Suddenly, these willingness elements are about bringing hope and they can be better labeled as vehicles of faith.

To bring hope to someone, you must hope as well and assume that even the smallest amount of positivity can kick-start benefits. There is faith not only that this hope will be justified, but also faith in oneself so that others, who are involved and all too aware of the difficulty of the challenge, are encouraged.

In a structural hierarchy, the grouping of 1 level is referred to as the monads. Monads form the building blocks of all components found in making a difference.

The function of the monads generally is proposed as: to activate in a person a basic readiness to engage with whatever challenges present.

Qualifier: Trying-L1 generates the qualifier. Without a degree of confidence, trying becomes ineffective or does not occur. For hope to be engendered, it seems that confidence must be expressed. So confidently is provisionally proposed as the g1-qualifier. This means that all 28 groups will require a foundation of confidence.

Correspondingly, the characteristic dysfunction here is a defeatist attitude, leading to half-heartedness which does not raise hopes much if at all.

Extreme destructiveness presents here as despair which prevents activation of any of the monads.

Properties:  The elements of hope and faith are ... benefit from encouragement.

Vehicles of Faith

G11: Try

Here, faith is applied to a course of action

Function in bringing hope: To demonstrate that an effort is being made.

Trying is often daunting: but assistance can be received via encouragement, while discouragement can decrease willingness.

Willingness weakens if there is a temptation to give up easily.

DestructivenessTrying that takes the form of bluffing or faking effort.

G12: Believe

Here, faith is applied to knowing.

Function in bringing hope: To provide a rationale for expecting efforts to help.

Believing is often challenged. If so, evidence or testimonials can assist, as well as encouragement.

Willingness weakens if there is a wavering in the use of crucial beliefs.

DestructivenessBelieving that is hypocritical so that presented beliefs are a pretence or even contrary to actual beliefs.

G13: Face

Here, faith is applied to an account of a situation.

Function in bringing hope: To directly acknowledge all relevant factors in a situation.

Facing up to facts is often avoided. If so, honest dialogue can assist, as well as evidence, and persuasive techniques.

Willingness weakens if conformity to what everyone knows dominates and distorts awareness.

Destructiveness: Facing that is deliberately deceptive and dishonest.

G14: Participate

Here, faith is applied to the social element.

Function in bringing hope: To join and cooperate with others who are involved.

Participating often activates a self-conscious withdrawal. If so, it can be assisted by active recognition and inclusion, as well as honest dialogue, evidence and encouragement.

Willingness weakens if there are serious conflicts of interest.

Destructiveness: Participation that is aloof and disconnected.

G15: Risk

Here, faith is applied to the social element.

Function in bringing hope: To accept the possibility of harm or loss while helping.

Risking often generates fears that losses will be excessive. If so, it can be assisted by provisions for mitigation, as well as active recognition, honest dialogue and comparison with alternatives.

Willingness weakens if loss aversion dominates.

DestructivenessRisking that is just bravado.

G16: Learn

Here, faith is applied to the acquisition of knowledge and skills.

Function in bringing hope: To acquire relevant knowledge and understanding.

Learning often makes demands that feel overwhelming. If so, it can be assisted by access to mentors, public resources, and dedicated tools.

Willingness weakens is a person is suspicious of the motives of teachers and public resources.

Destructiveness: Learning in the presence of arrogance prevents acknowledgement of any deficiency and denies that others could have superior expertise.

G17: Trust

Here, faith is applied to the use of willingness.

Function in bringing hope: To assume all will go well and there will be no harm.

Trusting often seems dangerous. If so, it can be assisted by proofs of trustworthiness, allowing some defensiveness, and using reflection.

Willingness weakens if prior experiences of hurt due to betrayal remain emotionally present.

DestructivenessTrust that is submerged by paranoid ideation and conspiracy theories.

Transition

Hope has been raised—but will it be dashed? Is the imagined help going to develop into something more, or will it just fizzle out? After the feel-good rush around bringing hope, will the hard work be avoided?

Those are the concerns of the recipients in the situation and they naturally become a concern of anyone who is genuinely trying to make a difference.

Everyone involved requires reassurance that there will be follow-through. Effective reassurance can be expected to support and maintain hope, while weak reassurance will limit the experience.

It turns out that it is possible to communicate reassurance by adding adjacent levels and forming dyads that promise continuity.
