Proffer Assertions: CG2
Begin Connecting
are subjective and can be kept private. But to clarify compatibility you have to put something out there to which others can respond. That means making with the knowledge that others will use these both as a way to initially connect with you and also in their assessment of a possible relationship.
therefore emerge as the public basis for clarifying what sort of social relation, if any, can be developed with the other party— given who you are and how you think.
Converting a view into an assertion requires a modification to make it relevant to the other party and to convey personal strength. However confident you are in your views, such assertions need to be rather than dogmatically presented, which could put the other party on the defensive and cloud balanced judgement.
Communicating by will give the other party confidence, first that you do hold certain views and that they are not being presented just for show; and second that you are prepared to discuss, adjust or even abandon your views through dialogue.
Dyad Function: To present oneself to another so as to make a connection that may offer future compatibility.
In any new encounter, you cannot know how others will respond to you. You seek a response that is meaningful rather than politely positive or rigidly defensive. That means your must be genuine and relevant to the other party and your common situation. If incompatibility is inherent in a particular social relationship, the sooner you discover that the better. permits an easy dignified retreat by either side.
Mechanism: Proffering assertion requires initiative. You must have assessed the situation, developed relevant and chosen to communicate more or less independently. If you have required others to direct you to a potential relationship, you will lack the mindset that supports a clear-eyed determination of compatibility.
Personal Strength: Initiative depends on self-confidence, without which approaches to connect will be halting and half-hearted. Self-confidence also plays a large part in attracting the other party, whether that is for an intimate relationship or for a business partnership.
Qualifier
Given that relevant to the other party is the way to present yourself, it is necessary to determine a qualifier for these : see an explanation here. This g2-qualifier will need to characterise the second level in every group in this and all subsequent groupings.
Qualifiers get their character from the correspondingly numbered monad, which for g2 is . It is provisionally proposed as «coherent». Anything coherent is stated in a way that its elements fit together intelligibly and make disclosures consistent and meaningful.
Psychosocial Pressures
The expected 1° pressure is understanding. This fits here given that understanding must inform whatever assertions are made. The concern for compatibility also calls for understanding the interests and sensitivities of the other party when proffering assertions.
The expected 2° pressure is performance. This also fits because it is not enough to understand, your assertions require you to exercise your ability to respond to the interests and sensitivities of the other party, as well as affirming your own stance and needs.
Types of Disclosure
Possession of provides the foundation for , and this is enabled by combining two adjacent Levels to form dyads. These assertions reveal .
The can be named as follows:
In each dyadic disclosure:
-
the upper Level is intrinsically general and must be coherent so as to provide intelligibility and strength.
-
the lower Level is intrinsically particular and must be plausible so as to provide clarity and credibility.
How It Goes Wrong
Everyone expresses views when interacting with others. But these disclosures may not always help you determine compatibility. Social relationships can easily go wrong...
...if you are always trying to be agreeable because:
- that is simply politeness;
- this will lead to people liking you;
- otherwise you will get rejected.
...if you have a habit of telling white lies to smooth interactions or show politeness.
The effect of such attitudes is to suppress an authentic response and create an interpersonal distance that will interfere with assessing compatibility.
- Differentiate the CG2-types of disclosure via functions, structures and concerns.
