Re-enter Mode-1 again: Powerful Explanation

Reminder of the clarification process so far:

• Stage-1: Produce a satisfying explanation of the situation.
• Stage-2: Develop a holistic model of the situation.
• Stage-3: Identify the polarization in the situation.
• Stage-4: Create a dynamic narrative of the situation.
• Re-enter Mode-1: The explanation is now sufficient and satisfying
• Stage-5: Develop personal ownership of the explanation.
• Stage-6: Impose communal standards on the explanation.
• Stage-7: Adjust formulations to suit the context.

Completion

Clarification has gone as far as it possibly can at Stage-7.

Because of the principles applied during Cycle-2, the causal explanation shifts even further down towards the lower right end of the ellipse.

The explanation of the situation and its progression is now powerful and socially effective. Minimal attention needs to be given to control, and there is a readiness to deal with complexity.

The initial principles of the Causal Mode-μ1 were shifted after Cycle-1 as explained earlier, and these now undergo further adjustment through the inputs from Modes μ5, μ6 and μ7 in Cycle-2.

• What is both satisfying and sufficient now seems powerful.
• Confusion has been replaced by confidence.
• Consensus on salience has become consensus on the explanation.
• Existing beliefs now extend to belief in the explanation.
• The obvious now extends to features of the explanation.
• Thought leadership is manifested by familiarity with the explanation.
• Preoccupation becomes immersion which is the basis for a creative response to situations.

Recap of Cycle-2

Cycle-2 has been about acceptance of the explanation as developed in Cycle-1. This process ensures that the explanation is perceived as meaningful and genuine in personal terms, meets recognized social or ethical criteria, and fits to particular contexts.

Clarity commences from a foundation in a satisfying simplistic explanation and ends in a powerful explanation that handles inherent complexity.

■ Stage-5 involved moving back along the X-axis to the Atomistic Mode to allow the explanation to be personally owned and applied.

■ Stage-6 requires moving up the Y-axis to maximum control based on imposition of uniformity and conformity that characterizes the Unitary Mode. Communal acceptance is expected when explanations used by many conform to socio-cultural standards.

■ Stage-7 requires moving across to the Unified Mode in which the explanation is adjusted to fit the context within which it is being used—but without abandoning any earlier principles.

■ With this personal acceptance, a second spontaneous return to the Causal Mode-μ1 occurs, but now to the lower right end of the ellipse. Here, the explanation is not just satisfying and sufficient, but powerful in its impact due to its general acceptance.
